A brief history of Burnby Church

This is a lovely small church with distinctive double bellcote and early Victorian Norman-style west doorway. The Norman north aisle and chapel have gone but the blocked arcades remain. The fine sedilia in the chancel and the tall slender window are Early English. The medieval painted quarry of a wheatsheaf in the north chancel window is a rare survival for East Yorkshire. The east window was designed by Giles Gilbert Scott
